A native of Rye, N.Y., artist Debbie D. Hennes is well-known for her sensitive portraits in pastel, oil, and graphite; especially those of children and families.
A professional fine artist for over 25 years, Debbie's portraits and landscapes are in many private collections throughout New York and Connecticut as well as in Europe. Her work, which she considers a blend of classical realism and impressionism, reflects an exceptional ability to capture the likeness and essence of her subjects.
Debbie's work has been included in numerous exhibitions, most recently at the Francesca Anderson Gallery in Lexington, Ma. She has also exhibited at the The Cork Gallery at Avery Fisher Hall, N.Y., The Viridian Gallery, N.Y.(juried by Lisa Philips, the associate curator of the Whitney Museum), The National Academy of Design gallery, N.Y., The Rye Art Center gallery, Rye, N.Y., The Levine Gallery, Mahopac, N.Y., The Bendheim Gallery, Greenwich, Ct., The Geary Gallery, Darien, Ct., The Goodman Gallery, Old Lyme, Ct., The Mamaroneck Artists Guild in N.Y., and The Katonah Gallery, Katonah, N.Y. She has won many awards for her work.
She received her college education, at Parsons School of Design, Parsons' program in Paris, the University of Pennsylvania, and SUNY at Potsdam with a Bachelor of Professional Studies in Illustration. Debbie studied under master artists, Everett Raymond Kinstler, Cedric and Joanette Egeli, Daniel Greene, Fred Mason, Alton S. Tobey, and Sam Adoquei (in his atelier at the National Academy of Design in New York City).
A member of the Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists, The American Society of Portrait Artists, The Artists' Fellowship of New York, The Greenwich Arts Council, and The Putnam Arts Council, Debbie has taught at the art centers of Rye, Putnam Council for the Arts, Pound Ridge, and Mount Kisco. She offers private lessons in Drawing and Painting, including portfolio development for art students.
